Bi ismi Ta'ala
Fellow students of knowledge, if you are like me then you probably have an unquenchable thirst to learn as much as you can and yet you find that there are not enough hours in the day to learn all that you would love to. Alhamdulillah that's the true mindframe of a seeker of knowledge.
Your life becomes full of joy in the moments of ilm and you find yourself slowly becoming a different version of yourself as you get closer to Allah Ta’ala through His Mubarak words. May Allah bless your incredible thirst for knowledge and raise us with those who sacrificed for ilm. Ameen
Our students at Umm Abbad Academy have been incredibly inspiring and we have students above the age of 75 and young ones all on the same path - a path that values ongoing learning and developing the relationship of Nur with Allah Ta'ala.
The question is how do we facilitate courses for the young, the old, the married, and the unmarried-yet it seems to be the answer to each person's personal need at that moment?
The answer lies in the reframing of Ilm - knowledge: We have always looked at knowledge as a means to an end. A certificate that might open other doors, and yet true knowledge is the knowledge that grants us a deep recognition of our beloved Rabb. Learning about Allah T'a'ala is the unquenchable desire of the Ruh. We once were in the world of the souls and we had been living in the close company of Ar Rahmaan- and it is through knowledge that merges information to the spiritual world that allows us to once again reside in the best of neighborhoods - imagine being the neighbor to Ar-Rahmaan!
Our current courses are designed to understand the core needs of our soul and heart. With the understanding that self-development and spiritual reformation is never a moment when we can tick a box and feel as if we have "completed" it. In reality, we learn because life is constant and challenging as well as joyous and complicated- and we have the most perfect tools to learn from the Qur'an and Sunnah.

It is reported that Imām Aḥmad b. Ḥanbal – Allāh have mercy on him – said:
Al-Shāfi’ī saw me sitting in his circle, and there was some ink on my shirt I was trying to hide. He said, “Young man, why are you hiding it? Having ink on ones clothes is a sign of lofty conduct: to the sight it is black, but to the insight it is white (with the light of knowledge).”
It is reported that ‘Abdullāh b. Al-Mubārak – Allāh have mercy on him – said:
Ink on the clothes is the perfume of the scholars.
– Some put this in verse (from Arabic):
The ink-pot’s ink is the perfume of menAs saffron is the perfume of womenSo the former befits the garments of those menAs the latter the garments of wives
It is reported that Imām Aḥmad said, seeing the students of ḥadīth approaching with their ink-pots:
These are the lanterns of Islām.
